Stress now accounts for 13.5 million days off every year in the UK, with one-in-five employees considering their job to be very stressful

The highest prevalence for self-reported stress, depression or anxiety is in the 35-44 and 45-54 age-groups. Incident rates for work-related stress, depression or anxiety is highest amongst 16-34 age-group with a higher proportion of females affected (Source HSE). Compensation claims rose from 506 in 2000 to 6,428 in 2001 with £321m paid out (Source: TUC)
